Maven Introduces Cat & Dog Drinking Tracking

Maven continues to add new features to its service, and the latest is another major one: cat/dog drinking tracking. This feature helps pet parents and vets assess the animal’s water intake levels, helping identify diseases or developing conditions. Let’s dive into it!

The benefits of cat/dog drinking tracking

The main advantage of this new feature is simple. It helps you understand whether your pet’s water intake level is normal or unusually high/low just by glancing at the Maven app.

Pet parents can view a weekly overview of each pet’s water intake, and any particularly eventful days where drinking exceed the norm will be highlighted. Maven’s AI will also alert you if it detects anything unusual, to make sure you’re on top of it.

This makes this feature a great help in identifying diseases that cause an increase in water intake, such as UTIs and chronic kidney disease, for example.

The importance of a balanced water intake

Water is essentials for dogs and cats’ survival – and balanced drinking habits help make sure they thrive.

It’s important to be on the lookout for signs of dehydration in dogs, as it can have disastrous effects. Although a healthy dog can survive for several days without water, dehydration can occur within a few hours… Particularly if the dog is exposed to hot temperatures or excessive physical activity.

Drinking too much water is not a good sign for our four-legged friends, either: excessive water consumption can mean they’re dealing with a UTI or other illness. Drinking water helps to flush out bacteria from the urinary tract, so if they’re overdoing it, they may not be feeling too good.

A word about cats

Cats in particular are notoriously shy drinkers, and it can be tricky to keep tabs on their water intake levels. Thankfully, with Maven’s new drinking tracking feature, that’s no longer a problem!

Still, if you want some tips, we’ve got some cat hydration hacks for you. They seem to prefer running water, so a water fountain may be a good idea if you have the option. Regardless, making sure they always have a bowl with fresh water (replacing it frequently) and adding more bowls around the house can help encourage your feline friend to drink more!
