Maven Success Stories: Pixie and Liver Disease in Dogs

How much can Maven actually change the lives of our cherished pets and their devoted owners? We’ve touched on this subject before (here’s Jake’s story, in case you missed it) and we’re back for more on this post! Liver disease in dogs is no joke – let’s dive into how Maven impacted Pixie’s life and helped her with her liver problems.

The patient: Pixie, French Bulldog

Pixie is a 11-year old female French Bulldog, intact, and weighing 24 pounds. She has a history of spondylosis and joint disease, and is currently taking both Librela and gabapentin.

Pixie’s owner tries to keep her active, taking her on three 20-min walks every day. The intention is to provide her the needed exercise, while still keeping her comfortable and trying not to overdo it. Pixie is considered to have a low daily activity level, and a mostly outdoors lifestyle.

Key data points collected

A sudden decrease in Pixie’s activity levels was flagged by the AI, leading our vet team to follow up with Pixie’s owner. The owner initially reported that she was showing a considerable increase in water consumption. Pixie subsequently began urinating more frequently than usual and experiencing vomiting episodes.

A thorough diagnostic evaluation was recommended at this point. Regardless, the owner believed that Pixie’s symptoms would eventually pass, as she appeared to be happy and maintained her normal appetite.

Detection and treatment

After Maven’s assessment, she was forwarded to her local vet for a more in-depth examination. As further diagnostic tests were conducted, they revealed that Pixie showed elevated liver enzyme values in her blood analyses, raising concerns about her hepatic health.

Additionally, a peculiar structure near the gallbladder was found during the ultrasound exam, suggesting the presence of a possible diverticulum.

A tailored approach that addressed Pixie’s known issues and liver abnormalities was prescribed. This multifaceted approach included the implementation of new supplements and diet to support Pixie’s liver health.

After treatment

Pixie improved after starting the treatment plan. Further analysis and regular follow-ups enabled the continuous evaluation of her progress and the plan’s refinement.

Maven’s role in the development of Pixie’s case is evident. The accurate diagnosis and early treatment was fundamental, and only possible due to Maven.

Thanks to its continuous monitoring, the changes in Pixie’s well-being were noted very early in the disease’s process. This led to the crucial follow-ups and the treatment plan’s successful implementation, which positively impacted both Pixie’s lifespan and her quality of life.

Pixie’s case illustrates how having access to accurate data can reinforce the potential diagnosis, allowing for quicker and more customized healthcare support and leading to more effective treatment strategies. The possibilities are endless – for liver disease in dogs, and much more.
